Are you looking for vegan Pregnancy Books?
My hubby and I are vegan and, pregnant at the time of this post, with our 3rd vegan baby boo (born in Sept 2024). So we’re enjoying our time with our little one
I figured writing this blog post for all the new vegan mommas was long overdue.
I love gifting these books for registries, and that these books also include important information for breastfeeding momas!
Two for one for the win!
I also personally own and reference these books for myself and kiddos (since there’s a huge emphasis on breastfeeding and nutrition for 2 of them).
This books will serve as a great resource for vegan mommas!
Vegan Pregnancy Books
I have enjoyed this process and learned about vegan pregnancy books and resources.
I’m also breastfeeding a 19-month-old while five months pregnant, and it’s my 3rd hoorah.
I have some experience up my sleeves.
Let me know if you want to learn more about that because that’s for another post.
Here, I’ll share three of my top fav books that have gotten me through two (and counting) three. I’ve also answered some commonly asked questions.
Here’s our short list of our top vegan pregnancy books you are in a time crunch. 😄 We totally get it!
Feel free to read more if you want to know our why!

Vegan Pregnancy Books: Top 3
I know there’s a ton of information online on vegan pregnancy books, and I like to keep things as simple as possible, so I’ve narrowed it down to my top three must-have vegan pregnant books.
I would give these books to any pregnant moms who are vegan and nonvegan.
These books are the perfect book for baby registries. I’ve gifted a few many times.
Here, I’ll share what I like most about each book and the link to check out, add to your registry, or purchase for a family member/friend.
Vegan Pregnancy Book 1: Becoming Vegan A Complete Guide to Adopting a Plant-Based Diet

I love this book. It’s very comprehensive and written by two registered situations.
It features an entire section on vegan pregnancy and is a book I use to reference.
My dietician and lactation consultant also recommended it! It even includes some delicious recipes.
Vegan pregnancy Book 2: Boost Your Breast Milk: An All in one guide for nursing mothers to build a healthy milk supply

If you are a vegan momma planning to breastfeed or pump, this is your go-to guide!
It made my top three list because it’s loaded with nutrition information and written by a well-known plant-based registered dietician and lactation consultant.
It’s a good and fast read and has tons of information.
It even includes recipes for good nutrition while pregnant.
This book is more specific to breastfeeding mommas, but I promise you will learn so much when you read it!
This is one I encourage you to have your partner read as well, as it will help them understand breastfeeding more in depth and can help them serve as a great understanding support partner.
I’ve purchased it for many of my girlfriends, who love the book and thanked me tremendously! I highly recommend it.
Vegan Pregnancy Book 3: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

This book is comprehensive and applicable to all mommas, including vegans. It made my top three because it’s filled with great information.
Many women, regardless of the number of pregnancies, really underestimate the process of breastfeeding and the support needed (mental, physical, psychological, spiritual, and emotional), including me.
I’m going on baby number three; each breastfeeding journey is unique.
Nutrition plays a massive role in breastfeeding, and there is no one-size-fits-all-all, but this book does a great job of covering most of the aspects of breastfeeding and is an excellent resource!
Great gift for a new vegan pregnant momma!

Q & A – Vegan Pregnancy Books
Now for the cute baby blue elephant in the room. Let’s dive into some common questions that I’ll share based on first-hand experience.
Is it okay to be vegan while pregnant?
I’m living proof that it’s okay to be vegan and pregnant. There are tons of vegan pregnant mommas. I get all the needed nutrients for our growing and breastfeeding baby.
I also highly recommend consulting with a medical professional. Raise Vegan is a great magazine and resource. They have an entire section on pregnancy: https://raisevegan.com/pregnancy/
Is a vegan diet good for pregnancy?
Sure, especially if you’re eating a plant-based and whole-food diet full of veggies, fruit, and plant-based proteins (beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, soybeans, etc.). My go-to source for nutrition is nutrition.org for plant-based and vegan diets.
I love it because it’s science-based and full of great information by a well-known medical doctor, and plant-based nutritionist Dr. Greger.
His website provided non-sponsored facts about nutrition: https://nutritionfacts.org.
Vegan Pregnancy Book Recommended by Dr. Greger!
I came across a video by Dr. Greger on vegan pregnancy. He also recommend this book. While I can’t speak to it, it’s updated and likely has some great info.
I’m sure most in which is covered in the books mentioned above but with emphases on vegan pregnancy. It’s written by a registered dietitian, and has gods reviews on Amazon, so I added it to the list! 🙂
What does a pregnant woman who is vegan need to take?
A pregnant woman should have a plentiful diet full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, plant-based proteins, healthy fats, and exercise. A low-sodium diet is also good. Vegan women have just as healthy pregnancies as other women on diets.
This is also reflected in the books and resources shared above. I love this resource 12 daily dozen. It lists 12 daily things you should consume and do (lifestyle).
As with most diets, it might be necessary to supplement with vegan prenatal vitamins with DHA, Iron, folate, D3, and omega-3s.
Some vegans are concerned with B12, but we get this from many of the organic soy we consume.
This varies because supplements have limitations since not everyone’s body will adequately absorb them, and it’s best to get these minerals and nutrients through food.
How to prepare for a vegan pregnancy?
The best you can do to prepare for a vegan pregnancy is to seek advice from a vegan/plant-based medical provider.
The vegan pregnancy books I shared are excellent resources and should be used as supplemental.
I highly recommend a registered plant-based dietitian and someone specializing in lactation (the is written by one – Boost Your Breast Milk).
Vegan Pregnancy Books and Resources for a Healthy Pregnancy
Here is an additional list of books/resources for a healthy pregnancy.

Vegan Pregnancy Books Wrap-up
Many vegan pregnancy books are great because they have relevant information and cover the main aspects of vegan pregnancy.
As always, consult with a medical provider for advice.
I highly recommend someone specializing in plant-based whole-grain diets and active, healthy lifestyles. Interested in learning more about vegan pregnancy, checkout our post on vegan omega 3 supplements.
Have a happy, and beautiful pregnancy! Xoxo
